Monument to the Actor Evalds Valters

On April 1, 2016, on the eve of Evalds Walter's 122 nd birthday, an environmental object created by sculptor Oscar Mikane, “a cup of tea with Evalds Walter,” dedicated to the legendary actor and social worker, Latvian gunslinger, thresher Evald Walter, was unveiled at Kuldiga Town Hall.

The work of the sculptor Oscar Mican depicts the legendary Latvian actor realistically, amicably, simply but nobly at the same time. The monument is reproduced in bronze.

Evald Walter was born in the 1894 “Eglenieks” of Planeza, the Kurmales civil parish of the present municipality of Kuldiga, died in 1994. He was a Latvian gunslinger, actor, literate, honorary chairman of the Latvian gunslinger's Union and honorary Member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences.

Evalds Walter was a one-off and unique personality. Revealing an environmental object dedicated to him, the great actor is back at home where he felt best. Evalds Walter once said, “I love Kuldiga so much that all I need to do is Pateika Kuldiga and I'm happy already”.

The belief says that if you want to live up to 100 years, you should come to Kuldiga and enjoy tea with Evalds Walter, the most famous Latvian centenarian.
